Privacy Policy

Vana is built to need almost nothing from you. This page explains exactly what that means.

Last updated: June 24, 2026

The short version

  • No account, no sign-up, no email required.
  • No analytics, no advertising, no third-party tracking — ever.
  • Your habits and logs stay on your device by default.
  • If you turn on sync, your data travels only through your own private iCloud. We never see it.
  • Apple Health is read-only and never leaves your iPhone.
  • You can export everything to a file at any time, and delete it all by deleting the app.

1. Who we are

Vana: Forgiving Habits (“Vana”, “the app”) is published by Lodehed Labs (Jesper Lodehed), based in Sweden. Lodehed Labs is the data controller for the limited processing described below. You can reach us any time at jesper@lodehed.se.

This policy applies to the Vana iOS app and these app pages. It does not cover Apple’s own services (the App Store, iCloud, Apple Health), which are governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

2. Information we do not collect

Vana has no user accounts and no servers of our own. Apart from the anonymous, aggregated purchase statistics that Apple provides to every developer (see Purchases below), we do not collect, receive, store, or transmit your personal information. In particular, Vana does not:

  • ask you to create an account or provide your name, email, or phone number;
  • include any analytics, telemetry, or crash-reporting SDK;
  • show advertising or share data with advertisers or data brokers;
  • use tracking technologies or device identifiers to profile you;
  • send your habits, logs, or health data to us or to any third party.

3. Information stored on your device

Everything you create in Vana is stored locally on your device so the app and its home-screen widget can work. This includes:

  • your habits and routines (names, schedules, reminders, colors, targets);
  • your daily logs (completions, skips, freezes, and partial progress);
  • your preferences (theme, accent color, coaching style, and sync settings).

This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly enable iCloud sync (see below). It is removed when you delete the app.

4. iCloud sync (optional)

If you turn on sync, Vana uses Apple’s CloudKit to keep your habits consistent across your Apple devices. Your data is stored in your own private iCloud database, tied to your Apple Account. Lodehed Labs cannot see, access, or retrieve that data — it is handled entirely by Apple and protected by your Apple Account. Sync is off until you enable it, and Vana works fully offline without it. Apple’s handling of iCloud data is described in Apple’s Privacy Policy.

5. Apple Health (optional, read-only)

You can optionally link certain habits to Apple Health so they auto-complete from your activity — for example steps, workouts, mindful minutes, or sleep. If you grant permission, Vana reads that data on your device only. Vana never writes to Apple Health, and your health data is never transmitted to us or anyone else. You can revoke this access at any time in the iOS Settings app under Privacy & Security → Health.

6. Notifications

If you enable reminders, Vana schedules local notifications on your device. These are generated and delivered on-device; no notification content or schedule is sent to a server. You can disable notifications at any time in iOS Settings.

7. Purchases

Vana offers a single one-time in-app purchase to unlock premium features. Purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit. Lodehed Labs never receives or stores your payment details. As it does for every developer, Apple provides us with limited, aggregated sales statistics (for example the number and country of purchases). This information comes from Apple rather than from the app, and never identifies you. Restoring a purchase uses your Apple Account and does not require any account with us.

8. Sharing and third parties

Because we do not collect your data, we have nothing to sell or share. The only parties involved in operating Vana are Apple’s services (App Store, StoreKit, iCloud/CloudKit, and Apple Health), and only to the extent you use them. We do not use any other third-party processors.

9. Data retention and deletion

You are in control of your data at all times:

  • Export: you can export your entire history to a JSON file with one tap.
  • Delete locally: deleting individual habits or the app removes that data from your device.
  • Delete from iCloud: if you used sync, you can remove Vana’s data from your iCloud storage in iOS Settings → your name → iCloud.

We hold no copy of your data, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete on our side.

10. Your rights

If you are in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or another region with data-protection laws (such as the GDPR), you have rights to access, correct, export, and erase your personal data. Because your data stays on your device and we do not hold it, you can exercise these rights directly within the app at any time. If you have questions or believe we are processing personal data about you, contact us at jesper@lodehed.se and we will help. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (in Sweden, the Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten, IMY).

11. Children’s privacy

Vana is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone. As Vana collects no personal data at all, it does not build profiles of users of any age.

12. Security

Keeping your data on your device — and, optionally, in your own iCloud — means it is protected by your device passcode, Face ID/Touch ID, and your Apple Account security. We deliberately avoid holding your data on our own infrastructure so that there is no central store to breach.

13. Changes to this policy

If we change how Vana handles data, we will update this page and revise the “last updated” date above. Material changes will be reflected in the app or its release notes. Continuing to use Vana after a change means you accept the updated policy.
